Chinese media accuses Modi of 'playing little tricks' over Tibetan issue

Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to China, a writer of the country has accused Modi of "playing little tricks” over border disputes issue. An article crafted by Chinese columnist Hu Zhiyong, in a state-run newspaper, says that Modi is tricking China over security issues. He accused Modi of playing the tricks to boost his domestic prestige and increase his leverage in negotiations with China.

The writer stated that Modi’s diplomatic moves last year have proven that he is a pragmatist, rather than a visionary. In the article headlined as "Can Modi’s visit upgrade China-India ties?” Hu said, "Modi should no longer visit the disputed border region in pursuit of his own political interests, nor should he deliver any remarks that infringe on the consensus on bilateral ties.” He was referring to Modi’s visit to Arunachal Pradesh, which China claims to be south Tibet.

He further wrote that the Indian government should completely stop supporting the Dalai Lama, and stop making the Tibetan issue a staggering block to the China-India ties. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister on Wednesday said that he had a wonderful interaction with Chinese media during which he highlighted the huge scope for further growth in the India-China ties. "I had a wonderful interaction with the Chinese media. Several issues were discussed during the interaction," he tweeted on his account in Chinese microblogging site Weibo.
