The Indian selectors, under the leadership of Sandeep Patil, have chosen a young side to defend the World Cup in testing conditions of Australia and New Zealand where the tournament will be played from next month. The team, under the reins of Mahendra Singh, decided to leave out the vital cog of the 2011 World Cup triumphant team Yuvraj Singh, whose name cropped up ahead of the selection meeting. Despite a gradual decline in his performance post- 2011, Yuvraj made his case strong days ahead of the selection with three back-to-back tons in the ongoing Ranji season. But that seemed to have little effect on the board officials.
