9 IPS trainees down with swine flu

Hyderabad: Nine trainee IPS officers from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy tested positive for swine flu on Saturday. The officers were admitted to different hospitals in the city and three of them have since been discharged.

As a precautionary measure, throat swabs were taken from all trainees who showed any of the symptoms of the disease. Vaccines have already been given to 917 persons on the campus, including trainees, workers, faculty and families. Besides, 2,764 doses of a homeopathic medicine were also given. A team of doctors from Ranga Reddy district conducted a sensitisation programmer about H1N1 virus infection for trainee IPS officers and others.

Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare, Telangana, Jyoti Buddha Prakash kept tab on the situation. Across the State, so far 3,777 samples have been tested, of which 1,233 tested positive. The official death toll is 51 in this season. In the last 24 hours, 128 samples have been tested, of which 47 tested positive.
