Give `5 lakh to ryots’ kin: CPI

Communist Party of India (CPI) Telangana Secretary Ch Venkat Reddy on Saturday demanded that the government give Rs 5 lakh exgratia to the families of those farmers who have committed suicides.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao here, the CPI leader asked the government to ascertain the facts regarding the families who were rejected financial assistance by the government. He expressed concern that the government identified only 500 families eligible for the assistance demanding that the GO 421 aimed at extending financial assistance to deceased families be amended.

Reddy attributed the farmer suicides to the failure of the government in providing succor on time, non-implementation of crop insurance, failure of crops, power cuts, non-adherence to minimum support price.
