Hybrid car made by five engineering students shines

Hyderabad : A light-weight hybrid four-wheeler, which runs on battery and alternatively on petrol as fuel, built at a cost of around Rs 40,000 by five engineering students, stood out at the two-day ‘Auto Cognizance’ fare organised by city-based MVSR Engineering College on Friday.

The vehicle, weighing around 150 kg, was designed specifically to cut down on petrol consumption, said G Saikiran, T Shravani, G Srihari, P Siddarth and D Dheeraj, the team members of the project. The vehicle has fuel capacity of five litres and can run at a speed of 35 kmph on battery and accelerate further when switched to fuel, explained Siddharth. The petrol consumption could be brought down by using the battery mode on smooth roads.

A one-time recharge of 35 hours enables the vehicle to run up to 35 kilometers. The design was conceived in 15 days. Four batteries, providing 12 volts and 48 amps, were installed in the car for enabling it to run, said G Srihari.
