Street food may contain animal fat

Hyderabad : The favorite Hyderabadi samosa, mirchi bajji and noodles that one is tempted to eat at a roadside eatery or motel could prove fatal to you and your family members as they might be cooked in oil extracted from dangerous animal fat. A series of raids by the city police and GHMC officials on the outskirts of the city over the past 45 days have revealed the presence of a large number of illegal oil extraction units, mostly from animal bones and fat.

According to GHMC officials, around 55 illegal oil extraction units are working in areas like Katedan, Mylardevpally, Pahadi Shareef and various parts of the Old City. Investigations by GHMC officials revealed that the manufacturers were supplying this ‘dangerous’ oil to small and marginal hotels, roadside eateries and motels at a throwaway price. The officials said that the oil from the animal fat was being supplied to soap making industries as a raw material.
